Savannah City Docks

Aunt Aggie is docked at the Savannah City Docks.

Today we went for a day trip to River Street in Savannah.  Jim, Ceci, George and I left Isle of Hope Marina at 9:00 am and traveled for two hours to the docks on the Savannah River.  The city docks are free for three hours.  They don't have dock hands, so you have to grab the cleat yourself.  We had no trouble placing a center line.  Then Jim was able to step off the boat onto the dock and set a stern line.  Success!  We felt quite pleased with ourselves.

As we traveled, Ceci sat up top and watched the scenery.

Jim and George took a 40 minute walk while Ceci and I wandered in and out of shops and bought a few items - flip flops for me and visors for Ceci.  We met at noon and ate a yummy lunch at Tubby's Seafood.  While most diners wanted the outside tables, we were happy to go inside for the air conditioning during our meal.

Can you see the huge container ship going by Aunt Aggie on the Savannah River? It's the blue and yellow ship behind us.  We were tied up.  Thank goodness!  Passing this type of ship is scary.  It's a wall of cargo. We were glad that the only one we saw was after we were at the dock.  All along River Street people stopped and photographed the big ship.

After lunch we left Savannah and stopped by Thunderbolt Marina for a pump out and diesel fuel.  Our only faux pas of the day was when we drove off after getting fuel and left George's wallet.  The dock master called us, and we went back to retrieve it.  He tossed it aboard.

We got back to Isle of Hope Marina at 4:00 pm, happy about our adventure. The day trip was Jim's idea, and it was a good one.  Now we are having quiet time.  Tomorrow morning Ceci and Jim return to Atlanta, and we move north to Hilton Head.

  1. Can't wait to hear all about it from Ceci. Looks like another great experience on Aunt Aggie.
