Out and About with the Murffs

Last night was the Full Moon Party at Stock Island.  Here's a photo of the band.  The party was in an area with tables, benches, a bar, a grill, and a corn hole game near the docks.  It was a calm event:  The average age of boaters here is 60.  I knew we were in the right place when the band played a Zac Brown song - "Only worry ... is the tide gonna reach my chair."  It was fun to be outside, hearing music, and watching a full moon rise.

This morning we had coffee and exotic fruit that Anne had bought in Homestead, Florida.  Every day we've tasted a few tropical fruits.  On the left the yellow is Canestel or Egg Fruit.  The seed is a shiny football. The fruit is soft and custardy.  The orange fruit is Mamey Sapote, which tastes rather creamy  with a strawberry/pumpkin flavor.   It's hard to know if we associate the flavor with the color, or if that is really what the taste is.

We went downtown to have brunch at Blue Heaven, a famous Key West spot.  It did not disappoint:  atmosphere out the wazoo; musicians playing while you wait; a rooster crowing right over our heads; delicious egg and pancake dishes. It was all great.

We did a bit of shopping and drove out to the beach at Ft. Jefferson State Park.  It is a rocky beach with shady woods coming right to the edge of the sand.   There was great people watching:  An artist doing a water color of the clouds and a woman swimming back and forth in front of the shore were standouts.  Anne took photos of the funky signs there.

We are taking a break now.  We plan to go to Mallory Square tonight.  Tomorrow rain is expected, so we want to join the sunset celebration while we can.
