Kingsman - the Movie

This is a 25 foot C-Dory, which we rarely see.  This is the type of boat that was featured in
River Horse by William Least Heat Moon, a book we read on the rivers this fall. Three of these were at our dock this morning.

Today is sunny and beautiful in Tavernier, Key Largo.  We did some chores around the boat:  We cleaned out the liquor cabinet, or cooler, and restored all our bottles there.  George also cleaned up an anchor we acquired yesterday, so now we have a spare anchor onboard.

How did we get a free anchor? Yesterday Andy, the sailor dad and our newest best friend, helped pull in our anchor.  I was raising the anchor, and he and his son Owen were in a dinghy nearby.  He offered to clean off the anchor, which was heavy with mud.  We noticed a line hanging off our anchor.  Andy said, "There's another anchor here.  I need another anchor."  So he pulled it up into his dinghy.  But it was not the type he wanted.  Andy is taking his family to the Bahamas, and he needs a plow type anchor.  This is a Danforth, which is what we use here.

Andy didn't want the anchor, so he gave it to us.  It was quite dirty, but it had chain attached too, so it's worth a few hundred dollars.

George scrubbed at the anchor and cleaned off barnacles with a hammer.

My part in the anchor activity was cleaning the back porch after George finished.  Our cockpit was filled with debris, shells, and dirt.  I scrubbed it and also filled our water tank.

After lunch we walked 15 minutes to a shopping center.  It is a bit run down, but there is a Winn Dixie and a movie theatre.  We saw Kingsman, a humorous action packed parody of spy movies.  Samuel L. Jackson was the evil mastermind.  There were obviously not great movie choices, but we did enjoy sitting in a movie theatre for the first time in months.  The popcorn and coke was delicious.
There doesn't seem to be a real restaurant within walking distance, so we are probably home for the night.

We made plans today for the next five days.  We are going to anchor out for two nights, Saturday and Sunday.  Then we will be in a marina, Las Olas Marina, in Ft. Lauderdale for three nights.  Each day we'll just travel about 30 miles, which takes about 4 hours. We'll be in the ICW by that time, and that makes me happy.
